A Day in the Life of Adam Templeman, International Resourcing Manager, CfBT Education Trust
On a typical working day I usually catch the 7.47am train from Newbury to Reading and take the opportunity to respond to any messages that have come in overnight on my Blackberry. CfBT Education Trust works internationally and as the offices we have are located in different time zones, I tend to have a lot of e-mails to respond to in the morning.
I am responsible for looking after the overall international recruitment strategy and making sure it is delivered operationally. Most of the processes are currently manually based and driven with spreadsheets and we have a tendency to use one recruitment supplier. We have recently undergone a systems implementation and a restructure of the resourcing function in the international division which means that the first few hours of my day tend to be spent reacting to issues within the project.
Part of the reason I joined the business was to look at the current resourcing platform of CfBT. We have developed a new strategy which utilises multiple agencies, a two tiered PSL and our own in house direct hiring. Our technology solution includes the NetResourcer product from HotLizard and I recently visited all of our overseas operations to demonstrate the product and some of the processes that are going to be implemented. Besides the obvious cost saving, it will allow us to generate our own talent to work in tandem with our suppliers. It will also generate a large amount of data which can be converted into recruitment metrics, and used to improve our performance moving forward.
My afternoons are typically spent checking the configuration of the systems, ensuring the strategy we have put in place is working and negotiating with suppliers. I need to ensure that the partners we choose to work with will all be aligned with the strategy that is constantly being developed. Working closely with my colleagues in HR we are looking at ways of improving the overall resourcing strategy for CfBT Education Trust and how we can engage with our candidates more and keep alive different lines of communication, be that traditional means or more recent social media methods.
I normally leave the office at around 5.30pm to get the train home. I have two children so I try to be back before they’re in bed. The advent of the Blackberry means that you’re never that far away from work and you can always respond to e-mails, so it’s sometimes difficult to switch off. When I get the chance I try to do a bit of running to relax and unwind after a day at work. Then it’s eat, sleep, watch a bit of telly and do it all again the next day!
